What Type of Covid-19 Tests Are Available For Children

The two types of tests used for Covid-19 testing in children are:

PCR COVID-19 test

The Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test is the most accurate test for COVID-19. To conduct a PCR test, our healthcare team will take a nasal swab sample for the child. This sample will be sent to the lab to test for the presence of viral genetic material.

PCR tests can be used to detect COVID-19 in both symptomatic and asymptomatic patients since it is highly sensitive.

Night Lite Pediatrics Urgent Care is now offering Same-Day PCR Covid-19 testing to adults and pediatric patients. PCR Covid-19 testing with same-day results is only available at the Dr. Phillips “Tourist area” location: 8956 Dr. Phillips “Tourist area” Rd Suite 950, Orlando, FL 32819

COVID-19 Rapid Antigen test

The rapid antigen test is done by taking a nasal swab from the patient. The sample is then tested for the presence of COVID-19 viral proteins. This test is fast and results are usually ready in as little as an hour so you can get same-day results with a rapid antigen test.

The rapid antigen test is not as accurate as the PCR test. However, it is also a reliable way to test for COVID-19, especially when done a few days after the patient starts to show COVID-19 symptoms.
