Does my child need to get tested for the coronavirus?
If you believe your child may have been exposed to the virus, you should consider getting your child tested. If your child is experiencing the symptoms associated with the virus, you should absolutely get your child tested. Even if your child isn’t symptomatic, you may still want to come see us for evaluation or testing. Night Lite Pediatrics can see patients as young as newborns and as old as 21.
How do doctors test for the coronavirus?
Today, there are two different tests available. The most reliable and common test is the COVID-19 molecular (RT-PCR) test. It’s a nasal swab test with results after several days. The second test is almost as reliable, but it offers results in only a couple of hours. This test is also a nasal swab test, and it’s called the rapid COVID-19 antigen test.
How accurate is coronavirus testing?
Testing is very accurate. With the COVID-19 molecular test, results are very reliable. With the rapid COVID-19 antigen test, results are just about as reliable, as the test has a 96% rate of correlation with the molecular test. Also, the rapid test is quicker.
How long is it for results from a coronavirus test?
If your child is tested with the COVID-19 molecular test, results become available in between 7 to 10 days. If your child is tested with the rapid COVID-19 antigen test, results become available in around 1 to 2 hours, that’s all.
If you don’t have insurance, how much is the COVID-19 test?
With the government’s CARES Act, any patients who are fully uninsured can get tested, and the tests will be covered. However, these patients must show a provider a valid photo ID and sign an affidavit stating they don’t have insurance coverage.
If you have insurance, how much is the COVID-19 test?
Health insurance providers cover coronavirus testing when a patient is suspected to have the virus, is under observation, or has been potentially exposed to the virus. With screening through private insurance, some services may be subject to copays/coinsurance/deductibles.
Can I bring my child to your clinic for COVID-19 testing only?
Yes, you can come see us if all you need is to have your child tested. A referral is unnecessary.
Do I need to make an appointment?
For testing, it’s not necessary to make an appointment with us. You can bring in your child for a test at our clinic’s curbside.
Are all of your clinic locations providing testing?
Yes, all of Night Lite Pediatrics’ locations are providing testing. You can come visit us at the location nearest you, and you’ll find that location’s address, hours of operation, and contact information on our Locations page.
What are the safety precautions Night Lite Pediatrics is taking?
All of our locations are taking the following precautions:
- Preregistering parents online, which will minimize the time you and your child have to spend in our facility (this will minimize the risk of exposure; please call us to preregister)
- Allowing just one parent to accompany a young patient, which will minimize the risk of exposure as well
- Encouraging patients to wait in their car and not in our facility, which will also minimize the risk of exposure
- Asking that parents and their children over 2 years old wear face masks when they enter our facility; our staff can provide a mask if necessary
- If your child is 2 years old or older and having upper respiratory or breathing issues, it’s important that you let us know about this
- Protecting ourselves and our patients by wearing personal protective equipment when we perform evaluations and tests
- Sanitizing our facility and equipment
- Testing at our clinic’s curbside
What should I expect at your clinic?
You can expect us to take the precautions we mentioned above, and you can also expect testing to be relatively simple and done at our clinic’s curbside. This particular precaution will help protect you, your child, our other patients, and our staff. Also, please understand that test kits are limited in supply and available on a first-come-first-serve basis. There may be wait times for testing of up to three hours. Thank you for your understanding.
