Does Your Child Need to Get Tested?
Has your child been exposed to Covid-19 or are they exhibiting symptoms of the virus? At Night Lite Pediatrics we offer rapid COVID-19 testing in Port St Lucie for children of any age. If you are in Port St. Lucie or surrounding areas you can visit our clinic for rapid testing with same-day results.
COVID-19 can mimic symptoms of other diseases such as flu so getting your child tested as soon as possible is important.
You can bring your child for a test at any of our urgent care clinics in any of these scenarios:
- Your child has been in contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 or has symptoms of the virus.
- Your child has symptoms of COVID-19 which may include a persistent cough, fever, loss of taste or smell, difficulty breathing or shortness of breath.
Any child ranging from newborns to young adults aged 21 can be tested for COVID-19. If you are not sure whether your child needs to get tested, you can come to our clinic for a consultation and our doctors will recommend a COVID-19 test if deemed necessary.
Types of COVID-19
Tests for Children
At Night Lite Pediatrics, we offer two main types of COVID-19 tests for children. You can book an arrival time online to schedule a test. All our urgent care clinics also accept walk-in patients for rapid COVID-19 tests which include.
Rapid COVID-19 antigen test
The COVID-19 antigen test is done by taking a nasal swab from the patient. The sample is then tested for the presence of COVID-19 proteins. This kind of test is done using a pre-made kit with a reagent so it can be done quickly.
The rapid COVID-19 antigen test gives results in as little as 30 to 60 minutes so you can get results on the same day you bring your child for testing. Although not as accurate as the PCR test, Rapid COVID-19 antigen tests are an effective testing method that can be effectively used for both symptomatic patients and those with no symptoms.
COVID-19 PCR test
The COVID-19 Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test is a molecular test that is used to detect the presence of SARS-CoV-2 genetic material. When you bring your child for a COVID-19 PCR test, we will take a nasal swab which will be used to conduct the test.
The COVID-19 PCR test is highly accurate but results can take up to 3-5 days. This test is effective for both symptomatic and asymptomatic patients and is currently the gold standard for COVID-19 testing.
