What is a PCR/NAAT Test?
The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test for COVID-19 is a molecular test that analyzes your upper respiratory specimen, looking for genetic material (ribonucleic acid or RNA) of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.
A NAAT or Nucleic Acid Amplification Test is a type of viral diagnostic test for SARS-CoV-2, which is the virus that causes COVID-19. A NAAT test detects genetic material or nucleic acid. NAATs for SARS-CoV-2 specifically identify the RNA (ribonucleic acid) sequences that make up the genetic material of the virus.
